Whats Alukaleigh?
Yes, what is Alukaleigh and why has Maureen Carr, local singer and songwriter, been seen hanging out with porcupines? Both questions are answered on Carrs new CD, Alukaleigh Lutz and Other Songs for Kids.
Along with her husband, Ben, Carr is best known for hosting one of Berks Countys longest running open mic nights at the Blue Marsh Canteen on Route 183. It may come as a surprise to some that Carr has chosen to record for the three- to eight-year-old crowd, but as a mother and early childhood music teacher at Berkshire Learning Center in Wyomissing, it is understandable and credible. As a matter of fact, the Carrs daughters, Meghan and Devon, both contributed to the recording, as did several younger Tulpehocken School District students: Jamie Weidman, Mark Adam Snyder and Janelle Fernandez.
Alukaleigh Lutz and Other Songs for Kids, which retails for $12, is available at Borders Bookstore in Wyomissing, Smarty Pants in Wyomissing and at Educational and Fun in Reading. The CD may also be ordered online at www.maureencarr.carrsmusic.com or www.cdbaby.com/maureencarr.
